Julie Grantham
"The standards of accommodation are not only high specs but very well thought through. Our flat was perfectly adapted to our needs and it allows us (myself and two grown up children) as a disabled family to function as normal. We can cook and shower unsupported. We have independence we previously didn’t have. We can use the garden and have a social interaction with the other residents, just like a normal family. I am a better mother to my autistic children and we are so much happier now."

From Crisis to Care

My journey to where I am today began over a decade ago, when I took a job in finance for a company that supported autistic adults.
At first, my role was purely numbers-focused. But over time, I found myself more and more drawn to the people behind those numbers – the residents. I began spending time with them, listening, helping out, getting involved in their day-to-day lives. That’s when something clicked: this wasn’t just a job. It was a chance to make a real difference.
Seven years ago, life took a difficult turn. I found myself on the other side of the support system – relying on the same crisis teams and mental health services I’d once worked alongside. It was a humbling, painful time, but it taught me more than any training course ever could. I experienced firsthand what it feels like to be lost, to need help, and to slowly rebuild.
Today, I’m proud to be a Castle Accommodation Property Manager where I can support others who are going through their own struggles. I bring not just professional knowledge, but personal understanding. I know what it’s like to feel like you’ve hit rock bottom – and I also know it’s possible to rise again.
If my story shows anything, it’s this: anyone can be homeless, anyone can be in crisis – and anyone can turn their life around with the right support.
